Finland’s Prime Minister Sanna Marin said on Friday she took a drug test following the publication this week of a leaked video of her dancing at a party.
“I took a drug test today, the results of which will be available in about a week,” Marin told a news conference at his official residence Kesaranta on Friday afternoon.
“Even in my teens, I have not used any kind of drugs. I got tested to be sure [due to suspicion]” he added.
One of Marin’s coalition partner lawmakers called on him to take a drug test on Thursday after leaked videos purportedly included people talking about cocaine.
Asked if she was in a place where people were using drugs, Marin said, “Of course, I don’t know if anyone used something that I haven’t seen myself. Video footage showed At night, I didn’t see that anyone used [drugs].”
Given the tension between Helsinki and Moscow, Marin dismissed questions as to whether she was in a suitable position to “lead the country” while in the party. “The State Council is always functional, and meetings are not convened at midnight,” she said. “If you have to reach me, I’m always ready to work.”
The Finnish prime minister reiterated that she was upset over the party’s footage being leaked to the public.
Marin insisted that his party was not irresponsible. “If I had any impression that I needed to be on the Council of State to make decisions, I would not have been partying, but there was no such thing,” she said.
Asked if he had a takeaway after the outcry, Marin said: “I would say that I personally hope that in 2022 it is acceptable in such a decisive situation for people to sing and dance in the evening. Will happen.”
