Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel : Tua Tagovailoa Suffered Head and Neck Injuries, A spooky scene played out during the second quarter of Thursday night’s football game between Miami and Cincinnati. Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was sacked, and she lay on the ground. He was taken off the field on a stretcher and taken to the hospital. The Dolphins’ decision to allow Tagovello to play on Thursday night was questioned by many after showing signs of injury during Sunday’s game. The team called it a back injury.
Ahead of Thursday’s game, Dr. Chris Nowinsky, Founding CEO of the Concussion Legacy Foundation, tweeted, “If Tua hits the ground tonight, it’s a big step forward for #concussion care in the NFL. If he gets a second blow So whoever destroys his season or career, everyone involved will be prosecuted and they should lose their jobs, coaches included. We all saw it, even they should know it’s right Not there.”
After Tagviola’s injury on Thursday night, Nowinsky retweeted: “This is a disaster. Pray for Tua. Fire the medical staff and coaches. I predicted it and I hate that I’m right. 5 Two blows in a day can kill someone. It can end. Career. How are we so stupid in 2022.”
The way Tagviola reacted after taking the field against Cincinnati has been compared to Austin Cooley, who was hit several times in a short time with the Colts.
What is the fencing response?
According to Healthline, the way Tagviola’s hands reacted is called a “fencing response” and is followed by a concussion.
“When a person experiences an impact that is strong enough to cause a traumatic brain injury (TBI), such as a concussion, their arm is often moved into an unnatural position. This position – the forearm Extend or flex, usually in the air – thus known as the impact and fence response state. It lasts for several seconds after the collision.”
A former Colts wide receiver, Cooley suffered multiple injuries throughout his career. One of the most notable came in 2010, when he was hit by a pair of Eagles defensive backs and was knocked unconscious for 10 minutes, his arms frozen in a manner similar to Tagviola’s. In response to Tagviola’s injury, Coley tweeted Thursday night: “Hey. Hate to see this.”
Koli played two of the last eight matches after being injured in 2010. Cooley suffered multiple injuries and dropped out of the league at age 30 as a star receiver. He appeared in 24 games before the end of 2011–13. After his playing days in his profession ended, he spent time working with CognitiveFX, a concussion treatment center.
